\n Why this matters<\/summary>\n

HR 1 (often referred to as the “Big Beautiful Bill”) is projected to cut between roughly $186 billion and nearly $300 billion from SNAP over ten years, depending on the source. Multiple policy organizations have described this as the largest SNAP reduction in US history, representing approximately a 20\u201330% reduction in projected federal SNAP spending.<\/p>\n

These cuts are expected to increase pressure on schools, more than what food pantries, mutual aid organizations, and community nonprofits can support in their current capacity.
